Internet @ Kuwait International Airport. Part 1

I work for a Web / Email Hosting & Solutions Company, so i have to handle support calls for the weirdest of things sometimes. Offlate for the last 1 month. Most of my clients have been calling us, saying that they cannot check email/webmail or Browse their own secure sites, or do FTP uploads etc while they are at Kuwait International Airport.  I was wondering initially if it had to do anything with their Laptops or any wifi settings. Until i personally decided to go there and check it out… This is a technical document… sorry about it(Non IT viewers).

Guide : MailServers (POP3 & SMTP)

Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, GMail and other providers are basically email services designed to provide you with email mailbox accesss directly from the web. However, going online and logging on to their sites is not always the most convenient way for reading and sending emails.

On the other hand, you have the alternative to send and receive emails through such a mailbox by using a local email client software, such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora,  Bat etc. In order to properly use it, you need to configure your email software with the incoming and outgoing mail servers of your email provider (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail or else).

No Internet for me!!!!!

I have been struggling for the last 12 months to get internet for a small office in Goa, India. I have tired BSNL prepaid, BSNl Dialup, Airtel GPRS, Airtel EDGE , tata indicom internet. all have been a major cost to setup and a major monthly subscription fees. But none have provided a great service nor provided me with support.

Unfortunately i cannot get any dsl or broadband(as they call it in India) as there is no cables laid out(even though this office is in the main road connecting 2 major cities in Goa). All of them have silly excuses, or silly unwanted problems. It really sad to see a growing country have major communication problems. Im not sure if this problem is due to a major country , or corrupt politicians.

I have 2 last resorts, i hope one works out . im building 2 major wireless towers that would transmit internet from a cybercafe to the office , a point to point distance of 5 miles. Or i have to apply for Sify Broadband(Cable TV), which has some bad reviews everywhere on the net.

Open Source … The Future!!!

I Strongly Believe that Open Source, will be the future of all Software and Hardware alike. Being in the IT Marketing fields, i have learnt to study client responses and the way how IT technolgoy moves from major companies. Major Clients like Microsoft and Apple are slowly loosing ground to Linux, Unix and others.

I have personally seen major companies , in Kuwait, rollout about 300 to 500 users from microsoft to Lindows(Linux Client OS) or RedHat its truly amazing. Security have shifted from SUN Solaris ,to Linux, Debian and others.

RHEL (Red Hat Entreprise Linux) has been also been working around the security market as a major contender. The Image about the NXT Lego Mindstorm Robot, is becoz the next Firmware releases will be based on Open Source. Now if Open source can do that , what are looking at in the next 10 years?
