Customers that Leave!

All of us, who are into business  and sales, face a time when we loose a customer. There could be various reasons you could loose a customer. It could range from a crappy service we may provide or to a point, that the customer’s “nephew” can do a better job…

What affects me the most, is when a customers leaves us and ends up picking up a very bad supplier to replace us. im like “you picked that guy?”, and then it hurts me, when they realise much much later… after all the damage is done! they come back…… and we end up picking the pieces.

But we welcome them with open hands.. but just concerned about the loss of time and damage done.

Apart from this … there are customers who crib and say…

  • My Nephew has learnt programming in school, i want to stop our contract and let him handle it
  • Why should i pay so much for a branded server? i have my cousin who owns a shop in hawally and he can make an assembled PC for me
  • 10000 KD for Oracle licensing ?????????? i can get this in Hawalli for 2 KD.
  • Im ending my contract with you. you dont give proper solutions on time. (He had Called at 1 Am at night? to asking me for a dentist telephone>.
  • Ray, we need complete Documentation, flowcharts, code examples, etc of your Online Trading Software, otherwise no payment. ( he wants us to print a 10000 pages book?)
  • I know everything, i studied in USA, i want my personal website to be done in Oracle. but i wont pay more than KD 50.

Well end of the day , we say “the customer is always right”

Ray: about the system documentation, its a “pre-requisite”..this is supposed to be ready at the end of the project. Cause this is what thrid party code reviewers and internal auditors ask for.

  • rayboy says:

T : yes i agree that its to be given, but not in a form of a printed book. We had dont Internal Audit of our software with international companies.. they only asked for the complete source code in a DVD and a flowchart of the process logic.

for all the softwares we built no one else(including ISO auditors) have actually asked us to “Print” the code and document it. Everything is digital now.

  • T says:

@ray:True.. its either that or he must have been finding excuses to delay the payment(s)

  • rayboy says:

delay of payments is common in government sector :-(
