Dear All,

Its Sad to tell you’ll that this blog will no longer be updated. The blog will continue to be on as there are too many links by other blogs and also linked by the search engines etc. I just dont want to make the content offline. Things in my life has changed drastrically and doesnt make me do justice to this blog, where you lovely fans time dedicate precious time to read and comment.

I will still be doing my reviews and testing, but on a more professional basis.

A Salute to Kuwait and Kuwaitis!

Another few days from today and it will be the 50th National Day and the 20 th liberation day and the 5th Anniversary of the Amir of Kuwait. I wasnt born when Kuwait got independance 50 years ago .. but i was there to see Kuwait liberated from the Iraqi Invasion. I was there , when the New Amir took power after the passing of the late Amir, Shiekh Jaber (May God rest his Soul). With this Milestone happening in Kuwait, im glad that im here to witness this !.

Being Born in Kuwait , lived about 22 years of my life in Kuwait, i have seen this country grow to what it is today. I was brought up with a Kuwait Family until my teen years, i was treated like a son, and a brother, and respected as a family member. Until today, where majority of my friends are still Kuwaitis. i have learnt to respect Kuwaiti’s not becoz they are blessed with wealth, but as normal Human beings, and also becoz they have feelings like all of us. I feel we should all respect them as well. I feel, we all expats should be thankful for this country and its citizens, as i am today.. The Country and its citizens have given my parents a livelyhood. The money that we earned, we built up our homes in Goa, i was educated, my sister too and today i have even started a couple of companies back in India. The time spent in the yesteryears of the 1980s was fun and extremely pleasant…

Another thing Kuwait gave me was a strange form of “discipline” in my working career. It kept me honest and loyal to all my employers and clients. There was tough moments, but the lifestyle taught me , to never give up and finish up the task at hand, no longer what happens. Over the years, i have seen and met Kuwaitis, i was introduced to their families, to their children..i found a strong bonding in their culture. Its something we lack in Goa… i have seen them sit together at dinner, family and friends in diwaniyas. i have seen lots of respect to parents and elders. i longed for that . There is love and respect in their culture. A strong bond which keeps Kuwaiti Families together.

I pray for this wonderful country , where im spending max of my years, away from my country. A place where i consider home, until i move back to India. I wish Kuwaitis and Kuwait a wonderful anniversary! i pray for the leaders and politicians who make the rules and regulations in this country.. and for the Amir himself, who shoulders the entire responsibilities of the Kuwaiti population and of us Expats.

Stumbleupon! Now you can only stumble on apps specifically and all it shows you are the ones that are rated 4 or 5 stars, and these are not the usual apps I found in any lists at all. Check it out, you will definitely love it! What is your favourite app/ apps!?

I think in due course of time, you will find people on the streets with the above t-shirts. BeniHana a popular Japanese restuarant Franchise decided to file a court case againat popular Blogger Mark from www.248am.com , just becoz he gave a negative review of his bad experience while dining over there.

The Whole thing is so horrendous, that Benihana being a world franchise just messes up their PR concepts and decides to take consumers to court. Just because they didnt like the food, and made a public statment about it!!!!…. Me and my family will definitely not even walk to this place after this incident!!!..

Its great to know that from all over the world is coming towards the blogger against this unnecessary battle. Benihana Kuwait, must fire their GM for doing this, and get in a new manager to clean up the mess that they are in now!!!.. Whats worse is that the Manager in question, ends his note to Mark with “Are you lebanese?” .. How racist!!!

While the Samsung Galaxy seems to eb doing exceptionally well, the accessories for them seem yet to make an appearance in the market. Trundling through the Hawalli market, absolutely unable to find a single shop with screen protectors, or covers.

Enter Zagg. Turns out Rayboy was buying it , and I jumped at the opportunity to have something that is described to have protected chopper blades. Seems like this beauty is making the rounds not only in the unattended Galaxy market, but also with Iphoners who have more than a bevy of accessory options to choose from here.

The only problem is having to wait for your Zagg to make it through to Kuwait, and making sure that your screen be treated as delicately as a freshly painted nailcoat. Will definitely review them once they get here.

1000 KD Grant to all Kuwaitis

Facebook was abuzz this morning with a few Kuwaiti friends nonchalantly acknowledging a 1000 KD gift from his highness the Amir.
It looks like Kuwaitis will get 1000 KD every month for 14 months. Anyone able to verify the latter part of this? It also seems that food ration would be offered for free between February 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012.

KD 150 increment for Kuwaitis, while we face inflation!

Review: Resident Evil 3D- Afterlife

In my opinion, in short… the worst movie for 2010. i waited patiently and what do i get ? ….. a crazy, mixed up, no focus movie!!! …. The previous Resident Evil parts, were amazing. and in this one i got extremely disappointed.

On, to the bad parts

The Zombies are now smarter and have Ben10 Alien faces
There is this big bad ass zombie with a ancient “lord of the ring” type axe. Sadly his face is covered with a bag! and we never get to see it and yes, the flight to kill him lasts 3 mins!.
Alice doesnt have powers now.. but is still super strong and beats the shit out of everyone
They show us this monster truck and spend about 15 mins to get to truck, doing all the possible flights, aerobics etc and then they realise… oh no… the truck has no engine!!
Zombie dogs can now obey commands??
First half of the movie is about seaching for people . Second Half is about killing the people they find… total waste.
Somehow the zombies here use weapons. I thought zombies are brainless!
In the previous parts, Zombies could be killed by a shot into their head. In this one they get shot all over(i need to recheck on this)

Good points?

We get to see Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter !. Ali Larter has great scope in acting in such “Women Warrior” movies.

Review Plantronics – Audio 995 Digital Wireless Headset

I gifted myself a wireless headset for NewYear as i needed some thing slick at work. The problem with wireless sound devices, is the price tag and then i have to determine whether i really need it or can live with a cabled solution.

So while at Geant for grocery shopping, i picked up a Plantronics – Audio 995 Digital Wireless Headset. It comes with a wireless headset and a USB Dongle. the headphones are comfortable and is easily adjustable. I left it for a 2 day “sound burn-in process“.

The Installation was quite Simple. Charge the Headset via USB for about an Hour or so, then turn it on. Plug in the USB dongle to your PC/Laptop and vola! we have Sound!! …. Ok now the reviews.

Positive :

Its Wireless!.. no cables, gives you freedom up to .. 12 metres…
the USB dongle, is plug and play. So if you have windows xp sp3, vista and 7, it should be a piece of cake. if not then it comes with a small cd.
it comes with a mike, which looks like like an antenna if you push it up.
the sound is clear and can be used for various purposes
the headsets are quite comfortable and it covers your ears, thus creating this vaccum, blocking out the surrounding noise.
You dont need additional batteries, as it charges via usb

Negative :

The Battery charge for the headset is only for 4 hours. so then you need to charge again… abit annoying.
Though the sound is clear, i dont think DJs or Music Fanatics would pick this is up as its purely “Stereo” and beats dont have much power. Dobly dolby surround and split channels feature on this phone headset would be cool.
the USB dongle is tooooo big , so when i used it on my laptop, i was worried it would snap and break. Now a days usb dongles are so tiny, that they are easily hidden and away from possible chances of being hit.

Overall… this set works well on General purpose usage so i think this will do well. But you are a hardcore gamer or music fan, this is not for you. Priced at KD 20 .. Geant at 360!

I finally picked up a touch screen mobile, after I see the world getting into touch technology from ipods, ipads, iphones, this touch… that touch … I thought it was time I get into that basket. So I picked up a Samsung Galaxy S.

One thing, I must make it clear!. THIS IS AN INTERNET PHONE. So if you dont have any form of internet connection for it. You will not benefit from its never-ending features. Its not necessary that you have a 24×7 data plan through your mobile provider. But occasional WIFI connectivity would help it to synchronize with google, facebook etc etc.

What I love about this phone is that it runs on Android i.e. the Google OS, which enables it to have 100s for free and paid apps. The free apps are supported by Ads .. mostly Google Ads, so dont be surprised if you see Gulf Bank or local Kuwait related ads when you run certain applications.

The Good Points

Its really well designed, smooth, the screen is AMOLED touch (if you dont know what AMOLED means .. this is it “Usually touch screens consist of two layers, a separate display and touch layer, which create reflective glare. Super AMOLED screens have one layer, which not only eliminates the air gap that causes glare it also detects touch and is integrated into the screen rather than being overlaid on top. It’s a new technology that lets you embrace the sunlight with one glare-free touch screen“
It is built with Android OS, so basically an operating system which you can customise, build your own apps etc. As a programmer myself, this is a wonder toy.
You get in different flavours 8GB, 16GB etc. it also allows you to put in additional memory. So I got an 8 GB version, but put in a 16GB SDcard.
It integrates with everything I know till date. All my google, facebook contacts are now in my address book with a 2 way sync.
It plays everything, DIVX, AVI, wmv
Integration with Youtube is smooth and opens full screen. Also plays it embedded within the browser.
Wifi,Bluetooth,GPS, all supported

The Bad Points

The Battery Sucks…I start my day at 6.30 am in the morning. thats when I take the phone of the charging dock. my day ends at 11.30 pm… but the phone dies by 8.00 pm. So I recently picked up a car charger to increase this. Also have purchased an extended battery which is due to arrive shortly.
You need to be careful with the amount of synchronization patterns and the amount of apps you install. Coz its like “Goodbye privacy”!! everyone knows what you are doing, where you are etc. etc.
The Camera sadly is “ok” not all that great and still cannot bypass a normal camera. But its ok for normal point and shoot situations. But not something you can frame out or print digital photos.
Since this is new in Kuwait. There aren’t too many accessories . I picked my accessories from Amazon which is cheaper as well.

Conclusion : Overall the phone is amazing good for its entry in an Iphone Dominated touch market. Introducing Android has been a major positive part of this phone

Kuwait Airways website redirects to Webmail…

Looks like their IT is getting worse.. Firstly their suffering airlines, and now their website. Looks like their web team or IT guys have lack of DNS knowledge … so if you type just “kuwaitairways.com” without the “www” it just redirects to a security page and on accepting the security issue. it just sends you to their OUTLOOK webaccess webmail service.

However typing www.kuwaitairways.com will make it work.

they should understand that many people wont type “www” before the domain name and expect the site to be located there immediately. or if they are promoting only the www version then a simple redirect from http:// to http://www should solve the issue.

btw the security error that comes there is due to the fact that they purchased a single domain SSL certificate which i realised is only for mail.kuwaitairways.com

i ran a search in google for them, i found that they are publishing www.kuwait-airways.com . i dont know why the “-” makes a major difference.

Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750

With It getting more Eco Friendly and compact, i think the time is right that Logitech has introduced their new wireless keyboard which is solar powered. Thus end of batteries and more…. . Another thing about this Keyboard is that it boasts about Advanced 2.4 GHz wireless, thus increasing the range of this keyboard quite variably. Using this in a meeting conference room, your couch at home and at work makes it a breeze! .

It also mentioned that the solar power can last for about 3 months, not recharged! …. thats a wow!

i think i must introduce this at work. Will try to get my hands on one, for a review. (you can visit the logitech link here)
