Early September , Yahoo Decided to “Deactivated” my Yahoo Voice Service( to make cheap international calls) . The Reason … “im not living in US” . They just closed it .. no reasons .. no emails nothing .. So i shoot them an email . and they say we are looking into it and it will be fixed within 3 days … 7 days later i call them back .. they say my case has been escalated to the their engineering department and it will be resolved within 3 to 5 business days.
Today 15 days later , i call them again .. and they say “Sorry your case is escalated to the highest level in the engineering department ” .. i was like WTF , next time will the president of yahoo look at my case? … i was like WTF is wrong .. what they said was shocking
“Sorry sir, you account has be deactivated because, you are not a US citizen or not living in the 5 countries this service is allowed. Currently Kuwait is not in our list, but since you have been a customer for more than a year .. we are giving your case a thought. “, i was like am i the only victim ? .. they said ” we have started the disconnection of services for the last 2 months and it will go on to deactivate all the users from different countries”
i said , when will my case be solved. They said ” we are not sure, but most likely , your account wont be activated due to the mentioned reasons.” .. so im like thats it? … i dont use the service? .. They said ” we are sorry .. but thats our policy … we cannot accept your account to use the voice service” … i was like thats it, you dont want me and millions of others as your customers !!!!….They said “Unfortunately , it seems like it, until further notice”
What surprises me is
- Their Engineering department has to check cases of different countries .. not their billing department.(Usually Engineering people fix technical stuff).
- They keep escalating my case to highest authorities .. how many higher levels are there.
- They dont have a timeline to fix things.
- They dont want us as customers.
- Even though they dont want us to use their services , but still allows registrations and accept Kuwaiti Credit Cards to pay for their services.
Thats it… im leaving yahoo … no more yahoo search , yahoo homepage … No more yahoo messenger .. nothing .. !!!!!!!!!

Sad that Yahoo has come to this!!!
I thought Yahoo was great having various net services and now they don’t want their “other countries” customers and just drop ‘em high & dry coz they have now filled their “designated countries customers”.
What do we do now???
Im studying options .. there are major players like skype, go2call and others.. but problem is .. that it is extremely easy for the ministry to block these providers . Yahoo was a bit difficult as it has mulitple services .. blocking them would deprive users from Email, and other important services…
will see whats out there.
There are hundreds of similar services out there that do the same, if not better, than Yahoo. It’s their loss if they can’t satisfy their own users.
Yes .. thats right 3baid… but how many are on the path of being blocked? for example its extremely easy to block sites like Skype.com as it doesnt offer anything else apart from VOIP… Qualitynet has already blocked net2phone.com ..
Yahoo was a bit difficult as it would need to be specific port blocks .. sometimes a bit complex. Yahoo offers too many services like webhosting , paid email services , Launchcast etc.. Blocking their domain .. would deprieve the population from paid services ..
Blocking Yahoo .. would be like Blocking Itunes / apple from ipod users
My voice out service is still active. Not sure if they will disconnect. Thing is I always have had problems with their voice quality (as compared to Skype), so I usually end up using Skype.
I have been a Yahoo! domain hosting user for more than 5 years, so they will think twice before disconnecting me.
Cajie : i hope they change their mind and get back the deactivated accounts. Im getting into skype … im happy i can use skype on my cell and use it wherever there is a wifi hotspot (saving on GPRS)
Despite their bad action, I think MOC of Kuwait should be blamed here as it seems they are just following regulations. Ofcourse they want more customers and money. I had Yahoo PC-To-Phone credits so I wonder what would happen to them now. This is just ridiculous where we are living.
However I agree Yahoo should’ve been able to figure this out from start, and in fact, instead of sending promo emails that I only delete, they should inform all their customers of the change.
they Deactivated my account’s two times with no refunds for my 10$ each . yahoo basicly is a Grand Thef Company ..
Yahoo is dead to me since they started a big bag of bulls*** over at flickr with their German version and Censoring pictures.
Plus all that crap that went on with them giving information to third parties, picture use without credit to flickr users and so on.
Since then I try to avoid them like the plague.
Sorry, you have so much trouble though :(!
