I know, that you dont calculate HUMAN value, by the materialistic things he has or own. but by the quality of his personality and traits. But looking at the concept of the world we live in. the question does arise. “how are much are you worth?”.
Taking an example of a typical NRI Indian (NRI->Non-resident indian). NRIs are considered rich with money, no matter, whether they are a maid or an engineer. Over all these years. A traditional NRI is defined as a person, who saves all his money and keeps them in the bank. so by the time the person is retired, he is like one major person with a huge bank account.
I have seen too many people still do that. But my question arises ? is that the right way to live? People tell me, Ray, we should not spend any thing here in Kuwait, this is not our country. But im like , what about the life and time im spending here. Can i save that?. Well thats a whole different story…
Coming back to my question. I dont really have stored/saved much. But i have built up my home, started 2 major companies, got married, invested here and there. But again, i havent saved much. when i meet people, they are like we have XXXX+ thousands, and millions in their accounts. and im like ….hmmmm.. what do i have… ?? its quite brain washing and scary at times…
I personally belive in living life(but not lavishly), enough to be comfortable, enough to enjoy, enough to be memorable. So i do think spending on yourself , for your family is a good investment. i feel to tell people , you can save your money, but you cant save the time and effort you waste, being stingy, living life in a messed up home, depriving your families from affordable comforts. Only to save for an unpredictable future….
So keeping all this in mind… i wonder , how to calculate worth?

I think you are walking the right path.
How good does it do you not to live now?
Especially when you pass the chances to invest at the right moment.
I think saving everything for retirement doesn’t work in our times no more.
Hi Ray,
That was indeed a nice article and to tell u a fact i too realised the same thing. The mistake that we make ( my thoughts thought, free to reject) is that we are calculating the value of life by money. I personally feel that we should be accumulating wealth and not money. Wealth for me is money along with the time to do what I want to do . Not necessary what others tell me to do. I should be the master of my life and not to someone. I should be able to pursue my dreams which have been deleted all thanks to a concept called reality. Our dreams today boil down to the size of our pockets. Hence I decided to come out of it and make sure I dont waste my life. I am now in pursuit of fulfilling my dreams ..
Thanks for the lovely article..am now in Goa btw
I have all the basic necessities … I have a house , a car and started to save a little … i am ‘not’ of the thinking that i will save for my retired life for two reasons ..
1. A close relative of mine saved for his entire life and died of instant heart attack … now his wife and son are having a blast … poor man didnt get to enjoy ( didnt want to )
2. A uncle of mine saved to his very skin of his teeth … after 17 years of amassing godzillion rupees in his bank he realised that he got old faster not enjoying while young and a bonus while he was here making money his wife was eloping with the entire village .
I will be stupid if i didnt save for the future , but while it comes to today i make sure i don’t hold back .
Nicole : I guess you are right. Times have changed, the way of life too.
Prasad : i know, this has been bothering me for quite sometime, i quite didnt know whether what im doing is right, on the path of one’s fulfillment or hope for a better future.
Grey : “In a humorous way” you are a quite right, i see that happen in Goa , alot!!!.. while the guys are on the ship, the women make merry. I have seen dedicated and loyal wives too … :-). Its right for the need to save, now that you have child, money kept aside for him at this stage will help you later.
