Internet not working? Check your DNS!

Offlate for last 2 weeks, i have been getting too many calls.. Ray, pls help us, net is not working etc etc. Sadly their ISPs are not helping them .. they just say, “everything is fine” maybe you have you a virus.

When i diagnoised this problem for many of them i noticed they are using the ISP’s DNS Servers. i would recommend you use these below mentioned DNS servers as PRIMARY and SECONDARY and then use the ISP’s DNS as alternates.

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

So i would prefer you contact your IT guy to make the change. Opendns is a community supported platform and with fast updates and Error checking. i would prefer you use it for all your networking DNS queries. Using the above , have solved most of my clients problems.

it doesn’t work for me. im on qualitynet.

i get this web page: www.opendns.com/welcome/oops/

i am forced to use their proxy servers i guess. do they redirect any dns queries to their own servers? i can put any ip address in the dns settings and it would still work

    no not really…

their redirect you to their servers only if the concerned site you are trying to browse doesnt work.

since you are getting their site. this means the net works

you will need a dedicated IP or some sort of way that opendns can recognise you

opendns is quite a world-renowed dns setup. you can just search for it in google and see loads about it

I’ve been using OpenDNS for like ages man.. infact if you have a personal network you can totally control and personalize your DNS resolution and messages… Also, i have a feeling that the 3G network (HSDPA) accounts are restricted by disabling the DNS…!! how friggin lame !!

@flaming carrot:.. Dude, what all that means is..when you as for a website.. hotmail, facebook, rayboy.org, the internet does not know where to go, it jsut knows numbers and stuff.. so a DNS…kinda translates your request into numbers for the internet to understand..

See.. thats not greek!!..Never stop learning…

Stay tuned next week for BGP routers!!.. hehehe jst kding.
