I Found this over amazon , 5 months ago, so i decided to try it out. Its an Instant VOIP Solution for home users.  This phone can be used with Yahoo! Messenger with voice service. It is Linksys CIT310. This is a dual mode cordless phone. It comes with a USB Base Station so that you do not remain tied to your computer and enjoy calls with Yahoo! Messenger. Also included is a port for a phone line, incase you also need to use the local line service.

With this phone you can also access Yahoo! Messenger Contact list, Yahoo! Local Search, Yahoo Address Book and weather search.  This phone has a wireless DECT standard therefore it supports multiple handsets with a range of three hundred meters outdoor and fifty meters indoor. As of now the phone only supports Windows.

If you subscribe for Yahoo Phone Out Service, then you can make calls directly by simple just dialing your contact number. If you have subscribed for Phone In service and have US Number, you can make people call you directly to the US number and it will ring right on the phone.

The Reason i mention is it an instant VOIP Solution is becoz. Imagine , you have your loved ones … (for example) in India. All they would need a simple dialup connection(higher the better) , a pc with USB connection, and the CIT 310 . now both of you can call each other PC to PC over this phone .. Now i understand using a headset is cheaper , but you could use this handset , for a normal line telephone or for yahoo calls. and its more easier to educated older folks on the CIT 310 handset , that manage the series of buttons on Yahoo Messenger.

The Linksys software runs in the background and is accessible via the System Tray, but there isn’t much you can configure, although you can add Contacts from the utility. The software’s main purpose really is to provide the integration with the base station and the Yahoo Messenger! with Voice software client. In any case, I then connected an analog line to the PSTN port on the back of the CIT310 so I could test regular landline calls. The CIT310 supports CallerID and can use CallerID number detection for distinctive ringtones by adding contacts to your address book.

If you already have a Yahoo Messenger account, you can simply sign-in and immediately make buddy-to-buddy calls or sign into Yahoo’s Voice Messenger page and purchase minutes for PSTN calls. In fact, after the wizard install you simply follow some web links to purchase minutes or add a PhoneIn number.

Drawbacks

Well , even though the phone has some good features, i would like it to have the following

• In Built Yahoo Messenger, so that it doesnt depend on the USB from the PC and the Yahoo Messenger installed on the PC.

• Wifi support. Since its dependant on the pc which the yahoo messenger and the CIT310 software is installed, this phone cannot be carried around . Unlike the Netgear Skype Phone.

• SIP compatibility , since this phone is built for YAHOO only . any other SIP accounts cannot be used.
