My History of Cellphones

We decided to clear out our attic, of old stuff, we found loads of things, i never knew i had stocked up. One of them was my collection of my cellphones i have used till date.. It really shows how time flies!!!!

Ericsson 188 (1999 to 2000)
I bought this phone for KD 25 (2nd Hand). and had my first Eezee Line Installed on it. The Phone was around 800 Grams and was massive. But i was a proud owner of a mobile phone. The Phone had an Address book which read from the Sim card. CLI and basic SMS sending/Receiving an could store SMS only on the Sim. I had to give it up as it was tooooo heavy and technology was improving. The Coverage on this cell was amazing. you go anywhere basements, deserts etc. i would get great coverage. Battery life was ‘ok’ for a second hand phone.

Nokia 3310 (2000 to 2003)
This was one amazing phone. And had survived with me the logest for 2 years. It survived the falls, flinging, scratches and much more. I loved the snake game on it. and most abilities of reminders, minor calenders and music tones. i had purchased the original color and the finland make. so that it would last longer…i had to give it to my girlfriend(now my wife) as it was lighter and easier to user. She used it, for another 2 years till 2005.

Siemens ME45 (2003 to 2004)
When the Era of polyphonic Tones came up, more colors on the cell. i decided to pick up the siemens ME45. It was the small, light,  had loads of games. What i loved was it had an Orange Backlight. and Had Basic Animations, It had great PC connectivity and more work related tools. it had many buttons on the side, which could be configured into many quick tasks. Sadly i had to stop it within a year as the orange light started to fade away and i could hardly see the text.

Sony Ericsson P10i (2004 to 2007)

When Sony took over the erisssion mobile Division, i fell in love the P 910i. I felt it was the ultimately PC mobile, it weighed around 300 Grams, was bit thick, but had a qwerty keyboard and a joystick. i felt like a business man. GPRS was just in town and browsing through that was (in those days) amazing. The Full color Videos, the MMS messages. it was a total Package. i Had to stop using it coz, Wifi was in, Edge and HSDPA was not supported. Battery life was very bad. and i kept loosing the stylus.

Samsung BlackJack i600 (2007 to present)
After a major fall on the sony ericsson, to which i had lost all my data. I decided to go in for a complete Phone(but with no stylus). I use this phone for basically everything from Managing 7 of my companies emails, to remote desktop to Internet on Wifi and amazing support to HSDPA on Wataniya. i still use this great companion phone. It has External Storage support. Integrates with Outlook/ other Email clients. Full qwerty Keyboard and much more. i have ordered the next version of this phone, which has a slight more bigger screen and more higher storage support.

  • That’s amazing how it captures the lineage of progression!!!!!!
Can I have your ericsson? It looks like it’d make a good paper weight. No, actually a good weapon. one time use!

Nice collection, wish I had kept my old ones. :(
on another note, you would think that technological advancements would have people buying and using smaller mobile phones, but they seem to be getting bigger :D

Interesting post Ray. I have a few of my phones but still remember my first one way back in 99. It was a heavy-as-a-brick Alcatel which could be used as a weapon or as a stool to reach the top shelf in a supermarket (since I’m below average height and all) :-)

But seriously, seeing as you’ve mentioend using HSDPA on your Samsung, does Zain provide HSDPA to phones other than the Blackberry? I currently have a GPRS line that sync my email and stuff but it’s too slow. Any recomendations on sticking to a Windows Mobile smartphone without compromising on the speed of my connection?
