OMG!!! Accident!!…. was he kuwaiti?? huh?

I thought a 100 times to write about this, but being busy, kept me away from my blog. but it was still fresh in my head, i decided to clear it out.

2 weeks back, on a thursday evening, a major accident occured below my apartment where 2 cars rammed into each other, causing both of them to topple and ram into 2 light poles removing them off the ground. the impact was so bad, that the car top was ripped off like a sardine can, thus causing the driver to be thrown out and probably die on the spot.

We rushed to see what could be done, but i guess it was too late, the other driver luckily was unharmed though a total wreak of his car. the cause “assumed”, was racing on a 40 max street and thus loosing control.

it was seriously sad, to see a dead person lying in front of me, i had thoughts racing in my head… “Was someone expecting him?”, “did he make plans for the weekend?”, “Was he planning a trip for him and his family”… i was lost in thoughts  and suddenly….

a Guy walks to me…. “Miskin!….. is he dead? is he Kuwaiti? “…  i told him, i dont know what nationality the victim was, but does it matter? a poor guy lost his life, his family lost their son, brother or husband or may be even a father. The guy kept quiet and walked away.

10 mins later, another guys walks to me…. and directly “Is he kuwaiti?”… im like WTF….. i dont know! but so what? this was annoying… i yelled saying , doesnt matter.. the guy is dead , let him be in peace. i decided to go home…

At the entrance of my building, my Age-old Haris, waits impatiently for news.. so i told him the story in 2 mins, the shortest possible way. he ends it up with ” Was he kuwaiti?” ………………. i walked away dumbfounded… on … why is it so common to very one to say/ask “is he kuwaiti?”…  when everyone is a human. a loss of life is a major tragedy. How it occurs doesnt matter when its over and you have the body straight infront of you.!!! Was it safe to say “Kuwaiti’ and not indian?egyptians? and the hundreds of other nationalities in kuwait? i dont find it fair…!!!

Maybe i was too emotional at that moment.

yeah I remember you telling us about it when we met last time. It happens a lot at the accident scene. I’ve heard this before too, it goes like this
    Scene A
    person1: was he Kuwaiti ?
    person2: yes
person1: oh ok, he probably deserved it

    Scene B
    person1: was he Kuwaiti ?
    person2: no
    person1: oh poor man !

I once called 777 after witnessing an accident and the first question the 777 guy asked me was, “Is he Kuwaiti?”. I guess they would only rush an ambulance off if he were!!! :(

Grey: i know… its really sad.

Mathai: but end of the day its a loss of human life.

    anon: i think its everywhere!

    Reader: no idea… i couldnt ask a dead man… :-)

Ghayyar: Probably you are right, its a small country, most kuwaiti’s know each other and their families…i dont think its right to pull out the dead man’s wallet and see his name etc, until the police comes.

Not trying to tease you more or anything… but here is something I just found might be relevant..

Two reports of car accidents, one from yesterday and one from today.. both at the same news paper.

the first one, that happened yesterday, involved a philipeno death, the second one from today, involved a kuwaiti death…

    read the comments:

    http://www.alaan.cc/pagedetails.asp?nid=38296&cid=48

philipeno guy got two comments from readers.
kuwaiti guy got 13 comments even though it was posted only today and its just noon now.

again, this is mainly because we -kuwaitis- feel that we are one family. i don’t know whats ur nationality and where you come from or how you were raised… but kuwaitis usually feel that they belong to each others and whatever bad happens to one family saddens others..
