Review : Corolla XLi – 2002

Submitted by rayboy on June 12, 2007 – 4:49 am5 Comments

I had a great opportunity to ride vibin’s car for about 2 days. He has truly kept his car quite clean and well maintained. I had to give my mazda for some electrical work. So vibin had taken my vehicle.

Ok my views are like this . Comparing and giving it reviews , would mean i have to compare it to cars of its same standards. But i will also compare it to some higher models of other vehicles.

The Vehicle is great family car and very reasonable in all aspects, Vehicle cost, maintainence and works will within a budget of an Indian Expat here in kuwait. Infact i would presume it would be a luxury vehicle back in India.

Advantages

  • Great Milleage
  • Low Petrol Consumption
  • Great Shock Absorbers
  • Even though its a small vehicle, i felt the interiors quite big and broaden out. Basically a toyota concept.
  • Great AC for a japanese car
  • Low Maintenance Levels
  • Cheaper Spare Parts

There arent much of a disadvantage i found. most of them are my personal opinions.

Disadvantages

  • We cant use the vehicle over 100 kmph drive. its too light and tend to lift, which is dangerous for an amateur driver.
  • Since its light, it becomes sometimes difficult to ride during windy days. But if you know to manage that, then its ok.

Overall . its a great family car, within its standards. a good recommendation for expats in Kuwait.

Currently the highest “resale value” car in Kuwait.

Having said that, I had picked up one for my wife few years back. I found it a flimsy affair which is looked upon with contempt by other reckless drivers. I wouldn’t care about the contempt part – except that it can be dangerous. My wife used it to drive my son to school, and on 2 occasions had minor accidents with people coming from behind and banging into her.

I sold it off (even though it was brand new and we had used it for less than a year), and gave her a Toyota Prado. No problems ever since :) —- touchwood.

Cajie, i should summarise that Prado and Women are ‘kings of the roads’ … No one dares come to close to them :-) . It gives women, a feeling of confidence too

Yes the issue of being ‘looked upon with contempt’ is quite an issue here. I work in the parliament as a resident engineer, and even though i have manager’s gatepass(they have categories, MP,Manager,Servicemen,Worker,Guest).

The Cops at the gate , make big issues, since i comein with a Mazda. But once my office driver went there, with my GM’s Volkswagon Passat. and he had a clean entry…

i was a on verge of buying a prado or another 4 wheel drive… but i had to look into the issues of Parking space, low shaded parking garage at home and worst issue i would have , is to make it my IT garage.

Currently my Mazda trunk is fully of

    1. Laptop (client, not functional)
    2. 7 Netgear WG302 Wireless accesspoints (brand new)
    3. Loads of CAT 6 wires
    4. Some Wireless adapters
    5. Device Drivers in cds…
    6. Etc

My Wife told me, if i buy a bigger car it would mean a bigger IT garage… :-(

    Well, there you have it.
Post the stuff you have in the trunk of your car on 248am.com “Selling section”, and you will have enough money to pay for a Prado – AND extend your garage for the bigger car!!! lol.
