Review : Logitech Squeezebox™ Boom Audio Player

I got the logitech Squeezbox Boom for my Wife in Feb as she loves music and this devices provides 24×7 music over 3000 Internet radio stations from all over the world. it took me 2 months to actually plan on the review… as i really needed to work through complete aspects of it.
The Good
- It plays no-stop music, talk shows etc…anything from the net over streaming media. So basically you will not run out of music.
- Its wifi enabled, so you can place it anywhere around the house and it can link up to your wifi instantly.
- It installs the squeeze center on a networked PC, thus you can play all your stored music. and the squeezecenter is webbased so you can control the Audio player from any pc.
- its got a built in alarm clock which can wake you up by a musical track of your choice or tune in automatically to your favourite Radio station on the net.
The Bad (now these points are related only to what i faced. Others using the Squeezebox may not need such features)
- If you have a huge MP3 list, then the Wifi medium, wont be stable for it as it keeps buffering all the time. It expects you to Wire a Network cable to it.
- The SqueezeCenter doesnt autostart if your Network PC reboots, which forces you to manually turn it on.
- I felt the remote was too weak and needs to be 100% pointed to the device and at a max distance of 1 metre.
- I felt the controls of the Squeezebox are too delicate and i feel i press them hard, it may break.
But apart from these points, i feel the device is a great way to have live and free streaming music across the internet, right into your home.

Hey this looks like a good player, but if it needs a wired connection its gonna be tough if my wife wants to listen to it in the kitchen
Looks a great piece of art….on the lighter side
The Good: Squeezbox and WIFI seems cool gift for wife
The Bad: Wife ability to defy buffering and take full control of squeezbox when not wired…………….lol
Could someone please explain to the CNet reviewers of these devices the difference between playing file formats and being able to stream internet stations that use the formats. A player may be able to play local .WMA fiiles (useful) and play real audio files (whoop de doo) but still not support stations that stream .wma, or .ram or .smil. It’s not hard to test this, just try streaming BBC radio, RTE radio and just about any US commercial station (eg Sacramento’s KWOD) and the review would be so much more useful. Until these players can do this they’re not adding much to the party that a $30 Linksys WMLS11B hasn’t been doing for years.
