To all you ‘Wanna-BE’ IT Guys!!!
Okk… here it goes. Anytime i meet a new client. i always hear stories of endless frustations that the client has had. The Mess up the previous IT guys have done. the losses , the damage etc. I really hurts me to hear all this from clients. Its like giving the IT career a very bad name. Apart from clients, i meet so many IT guys out there, who think they know it all. This seriously pisses me OFF!!!!
So here are some tips and pointers, you need to understand before you go out there telling everyone you are an IT Guy!!!
- Professional IT guys are built through experience, you can never learn your way up the ladder. So no matter whether you do your CCNAs or MCSEs … that doesnt give any shit on what you are going to face in the real world. You want to be good, then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and PRACTICE. Experiement of stuff, try out freebies and do things.
- READ READ READ. Never Stop reading, from magazines to books. An IT Career never stops, you need to know new things at all times.
- Just because you know MS windows XP to format and install, doesnt mean you know it all. Take an Effort with other OS’s from MAC to Linux, they have much more to offer than Windows… and a whole new experience.
- Just becoz you got someone’s password doesnt mean you are a HACKER…. True Hackers dont go out there stealing passwords. they are more into Security Holes, OS Vulnerabilities, Network Packet inspections and much… so dont waste your time telling people “im a hacker”….. oooooooo big fucking deal.
- Just because you can type 100 words a mins,.. also doesnt mean you are a HACKER. so stop telling clients that.
- Never have any Dishonest deals with a client. Just because you got to fleece the client. doesnt mean there arent HONEST IT guys, who could report you.
- So deep down in your heart. You dont know to Hack, then NEVER attempt to hack banks, government organisations etc. They have all the time and money in the world to track you down. You rather stick to hacking your friends PC.
- Work on Open Source, Freeware and much more.. there is so much IT companies are offering, for you to improve. dont waste your time on bragging. Less Fart.. more Shit needed.
- IT Career is an expensive stuff. So if you feel, that you cant spend on testing, studies, reading, experiment, geekyness and much more… this Career is not for you. So either, you remain a technical support guy doing formats or you grow up the ladder and manage major networks.
- If you dont know something, be Honest and Humble and ask. Dont try to act smart and act as if you know it all. “Little Knowledge is Dangerous”.
- Finally , dont screw up the market, with cheap pricing. Professional IT Services costs reasonable well. So we have silly IT guys who quote 1% of the quoted price, and then dont end up doing the job. or there are guys who charge 500% , who end up doing something the client doesnt want. Look at all the above points and price it well.
If you have anything to say… Post your comment.

Thats a neat article dude.. thats the difference between a pro and a novice. And only a novice will say they know everything. And a pro will always say they dont know anything !!
Nice list Ray! this is certainly good advice to all the young budding IT guys out there. I think you’ve covered most of the areas
Hey rayboy,

Man, you’ve hit the nail on the ehad Ray! It doesn’t just apply to IT, though; this kind of thing happens a lot in Kuwait & I havwe noticed and it keeps getting worse. People clamoring for attention saying they did this and that when in reality they not nothing!
But seriously, I totally understansd your pain and frustration when it comes to the IT genre mate. Well said.
