Whonda
I recently , picked up Mark’s Roomba from his site. Its developed by a company called irobot. Zita, has named it “Whonda”…
Whonda, has been offline for about 2 weeks now, as i had a tough time getting an adapter for it . As the one which it had, wasnt working. So finally my friends vibin and justin, found it. It was a bit difficult to find, as the output required was 24 V, and the common ones in the market, has a final output was 12V.
Whonda is basically a robot , which vaccums around. It seems to find edges and manages carpets easily. We a first generation model, which has some flaws, but it is fun to watch it go around the house. You can get more details on Whonda here
Even though we have a parttime maid, i decided to pick whonda for the following reasons.
- It seems , we can hack into the device and change its programming, there many more things you can make it do. so this gives me a chance to play out with robotic programming.
- Dexter ( my dog) occassionaly leaves quite a bit of fur around and worse is my Parakeets(5 of them), sometime makes a mess around. so the place looks messy till the maid comes in. so roomba takes care of these things.

. By the way Dexter(my dog), seems to have easily accepted a new member at home.

Do you have a vinyl flooring?
I recently changed from carpet to Vinyl (as I and my son suffer from asthma), and I just love the clean feeling of a washed floor.
A vacuum cleaner is not much use for me. Even though I have one of those wet/dry thingy, I prefer a mop. Fast and easy.

Cajie, Yes we do. Luckily , it was installed by the previous flat owners. before we moved in last year. Yes The Vinyl is good, easy to maintain. But it gets really cold in the winter. So we have carpets only in the bedroom.
Yes its easy to just to MOP it up. , But we vaccum too , due to dexter’s hair. Vinyl flooring , this funny sparkle when it is just washed.
My Dad and myself are sinusitis patients, so dust is a problem for us.. Better keep a watch on the asthma, i hope yours is mild and under treatment. I have friends who have a bad dose of it

i wasnt complaining. Its a standard problem in Kuwait , with US products and their electrical problems. Yes will post the hacks and modifications i do to it . im thinking of picking up the remote too which comes as an accessory, it seems we can modify that too …

Wowww that’s nice…..we used to see robots only on TV and now there you have one at home! Are we really heading to the so called “Space future”
