Working with CPU Affinity!
Now just becoz having multiple CPU cores is becoming a fashion, i have seen basic PC users having Quad Core machines & 8 GB Memory RAMs, but still complain about slow applications.
One of the reasons for this, is that many applications are not built for multi threading or distribution of processing power amongst CPUs. So Windows XP(SP2),Vista and Windows 7 has a feature called ” Processor Affinity” under Task Manager, which you can assign on which CPU your application can run. To go through it, Rightclick on your task bar.. and Select Task Manager. then Click on the processes tab and select the application you want to manage Affinity. Right -Click on it a select “Set Affinity”..
Choose the CPU(s) you need (minimum 1) and see the difference.
