Yiaco Apollo … Sorry we are closed on Fridays! WTF!!!

Submitted by rayboy on February 1, 2008 – 11:27 am19 Comments

My Wife Suddenly fell ill this morning, to a level that she couldnt bear it. So knowing what the government hospitals are and how they treat indians. We rushed to go to Yiaco Apollo, since it was the nearest, and a private outpatient clinic.

We parked, and walked to the door. its like “FRIDAYS-CLOSED” on a printed piece of paper. The Door was open, so we pushed it  a guard waves out. “The Notice says we are CLOSED”. im like what the fuck…!!!!!!

I had no time to argue, so i left the place, and headed straight to Dar-Al-Shifa, which was open for emergencies, but had no Female General Medicine Doctor. The Egyptian Doctor who was there , had no idea what was wrong. I felt the nurse there, knows much more. Finally after some discussions and injections, my wife is better by evening, but she has to do some more tests, over the week.

Now im totally PISSED OFF, by the fact , a private hospital is closed on a FRIDAY. come nin-Ka-Poops… Sickness doesnt take a day off. Now dont give me that JAzz , that doctors need a day off. I know very well that Doctors work on Shifts in other hospitals.

So bloggers, God-Forbid if you fall sick on a friday, dont waste your time driving to Yiaco Apollo.

  • GreY says:

Were the butchers closed too ? Man ! Yiaco Appollo has no doctors but butchers dressed as Doctors , so it is better to go to the butchers instead of Yikes . I have some stupid yet painful stories to tell about Yikes Appollo , but just want to ask you , if i take names of doctors will they sue me ?

Chikka : Thanks .. She will be posting here soon

Engima : yeah i know .. Pampered Brats.

    Lord Raj : Thanks

Grey : You can talk about them, but make it a General Statement , dont pin point anyone specific. Based on your experience its out to the reader how to react.

Personally I think it’s not just hospitals (which have become a get rich quick cauldron for some people) it’s with anything that concerns customer service in Kuwait.

It’s like the people that work for these corporate houses of disgust think that they’re doing you a favor by answering your questions or tending to your problems. I’ve been having major arguments with a whole bunch of people regarding this and this list includes the people from Showtime, NBK and the works. Even my bakala guy seems to be getting bolder day by day! ;-)

I suppose having experienced the best of customer service all over the world, one does get a little agitated when you get into a similar situation in Kuwait. Of course there are a few good eggs in the basket but overall it’s quite appalling I must admit.

Opps, I forgot……..I hope Zita’s better now mate! Cheers!

Argh, I’m glad she feels a bit better, what a bunch of crap, you are either a hospital or not.
    Fridays closed…… :(
    Insanity rules this place!

  • Sunshine Jane says:

So what was the verdict? Have we found one nice hospital with efficient expat staff so we can boycott the rest?

  • Zzz says:

Thanks for your all your wishes.

I’m finally feeling much better :)

Just wish nobody else has to go through this. I guess we feel comfortable that there are Indian docs at Yiaco Apollo who would understand us, so it’s just very sad that they think people do not fall sick on a Friday.

Gals & guys, try not to fall sick.

  • rayboy says:

Genius ? what are you talking about ? you dont even make sense?

  • Majestic says:

Being the LARGEST Expat community in Kuwait (as per our Ambassador’s speech on 26th Jan 08), I strongly feel that Indians have not got their place in this country and are not respected for what they really deserve.

I have seen too few Indians talking to other expats/locals 1 to 1. While speaking on this subject with my Kuwaiti Boss, I felt that He has an Indian Driver & a maid at home and Indians as Senior Executives in the office, it is very difficult for him make any opinion or have a general respect for the Class called Hindi over here.

Indians are more polite and sub while talking to others but suddenly a polite Indian becomes an Arrogant Indian when he is talking to other Indian fellow. I have not seen it wit any other community.. I always see a filipina greeting other filipina with respect and a Lebonese being extra sweet to another lebonese person. Why Indians do not respect the Indians itself..

let us start respecting ourselves.. then expect respect from others..!! Gosh.. what the F*** I am saying.. completely out of context….

BTW… Try Mowasat Hospitalmy experience with them is better than Apollo and Local clinics. But only if you have Medical insurance.. or be prepared for a peeeeeel off..!!!

I had some bad experiences at yiaco apollo for my first pregnancy.I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia during the final months even though i started showing symptoms in the 5th month itself.I kept asking the doc if everything was normal(b’coz i was putting on too much weight too quickly) and they reassured me everything was ok.And i had to deliver my baby at 37 weeks and he was underweight(only 1.4 kg).so next time i’m gonna choose a better hospital.Anybody have any idea where there r female gynaecologists(indians) other than in Apollo?

  • rayboy says:

shruthy: that was scary. there is a female Gyn in Al Salaam hospital

  • Grey says:

Shruthy , May God bless your child and give good health.

My wife consulted Dr Rajni Gupta while she was pregnant, we felt she was the best , now she is in New Dar Al Shifa hospital in Hawalli ( next to The post office ) …

What we found best about her is she doesnt scare like some other doctors do for unneccessary checkups etc .

And her Husband Dr Bhaskar Gupta is one of the finest pediatrician i have come accross, but he is in Apollo ( after all Apollo is not exactly the ‘bad’ place …)

    Good luck

  • Shirlin says:

hi grey and shruty…I read all the comments and half made sense the others were kinda out of the topic..Dr.Rajini is an excellent doc..she was taking care of me during my first preg and i must say she did an excellent job…i’ll be consulting her for my next pregs….now she’s in Dar Al Shifa…now ’bout Apollo the other day i had an accident and my finger needed to be stiched..guess wat i go to apollo and the female at the reception takes the money and stuff…i’m waiting with blood all over the place and a nurse comes out and stares at my hand and then she says ‘this case cannot be taken here cuz we dont take these cases’…i was waiting over there for 45mins and i just couldnt take it any longer i started screaming at the receptionist cuz the nurse tells me tht the recp. should have said it in the first place…now what can i say is it the hospital or the staff….i was shocked at their irresponsible behavior…lack of knowledge…i got it done frm Mubark Al kabbir…so gov. hospital came to my rescue…lol…well we all have bad and good exp.

And i must admit tht it was my misunderstanding too cuz Apollo is only a clinic and has its limitations…so i guess if there is an emergency we must go to a Hospital not a clinic…
